Bjørn Axel Gran is Vice President R&D Nuclear at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), and is part of the institute’s top management team. In 2024, he was appointed to lead IFE’s research operations in Halden after previously serving as Research Director and acting in the role.

Gran holds an engineering degree from NTH and earned his PhD from NTNU in 2002. He first joined IFE in 1994 and has built a long career in research, technology, and leadership, including management roles at IFE as well as positions at Safetec and ABS Consulting. He has also served as an adjunct professor at NTNU.

With more than three decades of experience, Bjørn Axel Gran is recognized for combining deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, particularly in nuclear safety, digital systems, and applied industrial research.

At Ai + 2026 Bjørn Axel is the Honorary Chair at the 1st International Conference on Human Centric AI – ICHCAI 2026.

He is also hosting the AI+ESRA event that is focuing on safe use of AI.
