Bjørn Ihler

Bjørn is the founder and CEO of Revontulet and the co-founder and Director of the Khalifa Ihler Institute.

Ihler is an internationally renowned expert on counter-terrorism and preventing radicalisation into violent extremism. His work focuses on the international dynamics of terrorist networks, both online and offline. Ihler’s passion for counterterrorism stems in part from his own experiences as a survivor of the Utøya attack in 2011.

Having worked as a developer and tech manager, with experience ranging from web development and database design to building AI models for the detection of terrorist imagery, Ihler bridges the worlds of tech, social science, policy development and intelligence.

In his mission to end terrorism, Ihler has advised world leaders, governments, boards and international organisations. From 2020 to July 2022, Ihler served as the inaugural chair of the Independent Advisory Committee of the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, facilitating joint efforts across the tech industry to counter the spread of terrorism online.

Ihler is a member of the Obama Foundation Leaders Europe Network and has, among others, advised world leaders, governments, and international organisations through his work with the Kofi Annan Foundation and the Khalifa Ihler Institute.

Ihler is a prominent public speaker, has given two TEDx talks and written for well-reknown outlets such as the Guardian, Time, Project Syndicate, and Aftenposten.
