Izan Sanz Colas

R&D Engineer, CIRCE

Izan Sanz Colas is an R&D Engineer working on improving how we manage energy systems, focusing on making grids more efficient and adaptable. With a background in physics and a deep interest in renewable energy, he is part of a team at CIRCE that’s helping to address real-world challenges in electrical grids, from asset optimization to understanding complex phenomena like electrical transients. In his role, he works on developing algorithms to optimize electrical grid operation, ensuring assets are well-placed, and analyzing issues like inrush current that can impact grid performance. He has also worked on projects involving climatological models, linking climate data to energy system performance, and gained insights into how different players interact in electrical markets, keeping up with trends to inform decision-making

At AI+2026 Izan will join the event AI for Critical Infrastructure: Building Trust, Safety, and Real-World Adoption which is a free and hybrid event gathering people from around Europe.
