Nikolai Astrup is a Norwegian politician representing the Conservative Party. He was Norway’s very first Minister of Digitalization (2019-2020). He also served as Minister of Local Government from 2020 to 2021 and as the Minister of International Development from 2018 to 2019 in Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s cabinet.

As Minister of Digitalization, Nikolai Astrup oversaw the development of the government’s national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI), which was presented in January 2020.

“To maintain a sustainable welfare society in the years to come, we must work smarter and more efficiently. AI will be important in achieving this. Now we have a framework for the development and use of this technology in Norway,” commented Mr. Astrup.
