Lorenzo Ruscelli, CEO of Fortress Fund/Head of Smart Innovation Venture & Tom Vito, Senior Business Developer Smart Innovation Venture
- Raise Capital
- Grow Revenue

Tomas Klevmo, Researcher Applied Artificial Intelligence, Smart Innovation Norway
- Timeseries Prediction in Energy Flexibility

Description: A successful energy transition requires flexible and optimized use of the available energy, both in time and space. To reduce cost and overall carbon emissions, accurate predictions of future energy flow are an essential part of any energy management system. Predictions form the baseline for optimized solutions to capitalize on fluctuating, distributed, and renewable energy sources, especially when combined with energy storage. In this session, we will showcase use cases from on-going research projects that benefit from machine learning based predictions for implicit and explicit energy flexibility.

Coffee and water is served for free during the session. The organizer covers the cost for the venue, while the participants pay for freely chosen lunch and drinks.

Il Casolare, Halden

10:15 - 13:00: Institute for Energy Technology - 3 sessions

Byparken, Jernbanetorget 2, 1767 Halden

We are at a crossroads in history. AI offers powerful tools to advance healthcare, to make daily life easier, to entertain us and to gain new insights and knowledge. At the same time, the pace of development and ubiquitous deployment of AI across all parts of society, such as in self-driving cars, games and chatbots, makes it harder to manage or even understand the potential harmful effects of poor design or implementation. In this parallel session, you will hear IFE’s experts reflect on the ethical questions that arise with the increased use of AI, and how we might begin to address these issues.

Dismantling existing buildings, oil platforms or nuclear reactors is expensive and involves safety risks. How can we use artificial intelligence and robotics to reduce both costs and risks, and create safer and more efficient methods for decommissioning? Join us for an enlightening parallel session at IFE, where experts from HADRON lab (Hazard Aware Digitalization and Robotics in Nuclear and other domains) will share their insights and real-world experience in the field of Hazard Aware Digitalization and Robotics.

In this session IFE will demonstrate 3 examples of how AI is applied with success for industry, for science and for fun.

1. Data-driven methods for decision support
2. Classifying human performance with biometric sensors and ML
3. Reinforcement learning in practice on a pinball machine

10:15 - 13:00: Halden municipality - Speed Dating

Rådhuset, Storgata 8, 1771 Halden

In this parallel session, your company can speed date with representatives from Norwegian Municipalities. The aim of the session is to:

- Establish a connection with representatives from Norways’ most business friendly municipality
- Pitch your ideas and your company to a potential public business partner
- Gain knowledge on important topics and questions that are often raised in private-public cooperations and partnerships.

Each company will be able to pitch and conversation up to 20 minutes each in a separate room, and you will need to register in advance (preferably by Tuesday, May 2nd). There will be

- 2 meetings between 10:15 - 11:00
- 2 meetings between 11:15 - 12:00
- 2 meetings between 12:15 - 13:00

Rådhuset i Halden

10:15 - 13:00: Smart Innovation Norway - 3 sessions

Kulturhuset Halden, 2nd floor. Tordenskjolds gate 1, 1776 Halden

Welcome to our session where two innovative organizations, NMBU (Norwegian University of Life Sciences) and Novatech, will present their groundbreaking initiatives to drive sustainability.

After their presentations, we invite the audience to join the conversation and discuss how we by joining forces, sharing data and knowledge, and applying AI can achieve more.

Sigve Pettersen, NMBU (Norwegian University of Life Sciences)
- Introducing NMBU Smart Campus. The goal is more sustainable management and operation of shared resources through better utilization of space and buildings, optimal indoor climate, and lower energy consumption. To achieve this, data is collected from various systems and sources in the buildings, surroundings, and IoT, which is analyzed using machine learning (AI) and used for visualization and better management of the campus.

Knut Husdal, CEO of Novatech AS
- Introducing NESSi, an AI-driven prediction and simulation tool that enables corporations and organizations to model different emission reduction strategies and identify the most effective and impactful measures to achieve their sustainability goals.

The session is led by Cluster for Applied AI, Norway’s largest business cluster within applied artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence can provide important solutions to achieve increased productivity, efficiency, and to lower risk for companies. It can also help to optimize workflows and processes by doing simulations.

In this parallel session, Bjørn Dimmen, the leader of DigiCat, will elaborate on how businesses can achieve great benefits by collaborating with the Norwegian Catapult Programme and NODE Halden. The Norwegian Catapult Programme is a governmental scheme designed to assist the establishment and development of catapult centres, with the purpose of accelerating the process from concept to market launch of the product.

The purpose of the Catapult Programme is to support innovative capability and to make it easier for companies to create new prototypes and visualizations, and to test and/or simulate various new business ideas.

You will also hear from Eirik Andreassen, who will present Nemonoor - Norway's national centre for AI.

Surender Redhu, PhD, Researcher Artificial Intelligence in Sustainable Energy, Smart Innovation Norway
- Privacy-preserving AI for futuristic smart homes and buildings

Description: AI-enabled applications demand data from several sensors and IoT devices placed in smart homes and buildings to perform prediction and control tasks such as energy consumption forecasting and appliance’ optimal scheduling. However, consumers are generally hesitant to share their data due to privacy concerns. Therefore, privacy-preserving AI becomes a necessity in such applications, and edge computing will be a potential solution to this problem, especially the federated learning approaches.

Kalyan Ayyalasomayajula, PhD, Senior Researcher Artificial Intelligence, Smart Innovation Norway
- Recommendation systems with a human touch

Description: We have seen recommendations being made to us over internet through our purchasing patterns (e.g., Amazon) and movie history (e.g., Netflix). Although the applications might differ the underlying algorithms can very well be applied to understand human behavior for a set cause. In this session we will focus on application of recommendation systems on voluntary survey data for improving energy saving behavior and tweaking human patterns towards green energy and other initiatives to reduce carbon footprint.
