Computas, a Nordic IT and AI solutions provider, pioneered applied artificial intelligence in Norway. Today the employees have developed a strong expertise not only on AI, but also cloud technology, big data and application development. The company delivers value-adding solutions benefiting the public for both the public and private sector, and their expertise lies especially in public administration, health, energy and logistics.

Our interdisciplinary teams offer the expertise required throughout the digitization process. We work closely with our customers to develop tailor-made solutions with high usability.

Computas was established in Norway in 1985, initially as a subsidiary of Det Norske Veritas (now DNV GL) working with AI. Today the company is 100% owned by its 350 employees, and has offices in Oslo, Trondheim, Malmø, Copenhagen and Bucharest.

How do you use AI in the company?

AI has been part of our DNA since we were founded in 1985. We were actually the first company in Norway to deliver systems based on applied artificial intelligence! This has been a sustainable foundation for the development and growth of the company, along with the focus on big data and cloud-based solutions.

We are very excited to see how AI has gained renewed relevance through today’s focus on generative AI and are already helping lots of companies with different use cases. We are partners with both Google and Microsoft, and have a strong in-house expert environment on AI. However, we are also very focused on the foundation you need to succeed with AI – for example a cloud strategy and control of your data.

Tell us about a recent AI-related success story from your company or an exciting project you are working on.

We are working on several interesting AI-projects for our customers, many of them using generative AI. For example, Computas recently helped a company streamline sales orders that come in by email. This customer received many orders on a daily basis that employees had to manually enter into their system. With the help of generative AI, we could take unstructured data from these emails (for example name of customer, ordered products, number of items, delivery information etc.), structure it using a LLM, and automatically enter the structured data into their order system. This now saves the customer hours of manual labour.

Another interesting case we are currently working on is helping a customer responsible for maintenance of critical infrastructure. They want to use generative AI to recognize patterns and abnormalities from video content, which could give them automatic notifications on equipment malfunction or maintenance needs.

Digitalization and AI is an important part of the solution, and we want to help our customers succeed with innovative, efficient and ethical use of AI.

Kantega uses AI to help customers build business critical software systems

Kantega explores how AI solutions based on customers’ own data can give businesses lasting competitive edges. The Norwegian IT consulting company is using AI language models like GPT-4 to develop virtual assistants and recently developed a new data and analytics platform for Enova.

Kantega aims to be a leading provider of applied AI solutions and services in Norway. In addition to their AI experts, the company has a broad range of expertise ranging from data scientists, data engineers, cloud architects, UX designers, full stack developers, as well as consultants with deep skills in areas such as innovation and business development, security, system integration and test and quality management.

Their customers are predominantly in domains such as bank and finance, public sector, mobility, and green energy.

Kantega is an IT consulting company which is 100% owned by the employees. The company’s mission is to help their customers build business critical software systems.

How do you use AI in the company?

We use AI in many ways in the software we develop, depending on our customers’ needs. Examples include training and using machine learning models to predict default on bank loans and using computer vision to identify objects in a video stream.

Currently we are involved in several projects where large language models (e.g. GPT-4) are combined with proprietary knowledge bases to create value-added services such as virtual assistants.

Together with our customers we explore how AI-enabled solutions based on proprietary data can provide lasting competitive advantages for their business. We offer AI courses for business executives and managers, AI feasibility studies, and AI pilot projects, that help businesses and organisations to understand their potential and where they can elevate using AI and data.

In one of our projects, which started a year ago, we help Enova becoming a more data driven organization. Norway has set itself ambitious climate targets, and Enova contribute through support schemes and advice on which measures have the greatest effect. Part of the contribution from Kantega has been to establish a new data- and analysis platform and new ways of working with analytical data to make Enova succeed in their mission, including the adoption of predictive and generative AI.

What goals does the company have for the future?

We believe that our customers need to become more data driven in the future, and we aim to help them succeed in their digital transformation. Part of the success will be to combine business understanding, deep technical skills, and a cross functional approach where people with different competences work together.

Why do you sponsor the AI+ conference?
